from the 21 May 2002 Steering
Group Meeting |
The minutes of the last meeting (07 May
2002) were accepted as circulated.
FOLLOW-UP ON BUSINESS
1. The "River Valley Anglican Parish News" and the "Parish Partnership
News" items began on 19 May in the four parishes. These are being well received and
seem to provide an effective means of communication.
2. Copies of the Alban book "Raising the Roof" have been
ordered for Steering Group members to provide parish size theory and dynamics involved in
growing parishes.
3. Group members expressed the need for membership on
respective task teams. All parishes should be encouraged to be involved and individuals
express interest directly to Team Leaders:

TASK TEAM REPORTING:
A. Existing Facilities. Craig Patstone
Contact will be made soon with the Diocesan Historical Properties Subcommittee. This
subcommittee of the Diocesan Property Committee is currently doing extensive work in
developing a tool for the assessment of historical buildings which could be most valuable
to us.
B. Community Building. Jackie Lohnes
In August a four parish Corn Boil will be held at Mount Hope Farm. Parish Visitors from
the parishes met jointly (15 May) for support and did some visioning on ministry
possibilities in the future.
C. Financial Visioning. Andrew Logan / Keith Lane
Current financial information from all the parishes has been gathered in order to project
how much income might be available to support a new parish. A list of possible
fund-raising initiatives has been compiled. The Parish of Ketepec is subscribing to the
Anglican Foundation and it is suggested that the other parishes do the same. (The Anglican
Foundation offers grants and loans to Anglican building projects across the country.) The
local architect who had conferred with the Property Group in Stage Three, had been most
informative concerning the process required prior to inviting architect proposals.
D. Communication. Cindy Price
The Communications Task Team is currently organizing the production of a newsletter (first
issue in late June). The newsletter will tentatively highlight a specific ministry group
from the parishes in each issue as well as a "memories" section, both to assist
the Parishes in getting to know one another. Creation of a four-parish schedule of summer
services was also suggested.
E. Parish Vision. Debbie Black
The assembly of the Team is in process and membership is needed. Items on the agenda will
be the need for consultation among the parishes in formulating a joint vision. In
proceeding, the Project time line would be of value. Some possible target dates were
suggested.
F. New Facilities. Gordon Brown / Wanda Porter
Consideration of prospective sites continues. Contacts a meetings are being held ad hoc
and when possible with those involved. A copy of the Municipal Plan for Grand
Bay-Westfield will be procured for reference.
GOALS FOR NEXT MEETING
1. A local architect will be invited to give a short presentation to the Steering Group at
the 04 June meeting.
2. C. Patstone will create a draft Project Time Line to assist with planning the year
ahead.
3. Team leaders will continue to recruit membership where needed. It was noted that,
ideally, all scheduled meetings will be announced.
4. Task Team reports to be circulated prior to the next meeting.
Next meeting: 04 June 2002, St. Annes Church,
Ketepec, 7:00 p.m..
28 May 2002
