FOLLOW-UP ON BUSINESS
1. Architects checklist - Reference information to assist in planning has been
gathered from the books that local architect D. Kochel loaned the Steering Group.
2. September 2002 Worship Service - Plans are being completed for the Parish Partnership
in Ministry Worship service to be held on 22 September 2002, 9:00 a.m., St. Matthew Roman
Catholic Church. Following the service there will be light refreshments.
3. Service Advertisement in the River Valley News. This has been drafted and all the
church services in the 4 parishes will be listed in the one advertisement beginning in
September.
4. Thoughts on "Raising the Roof." The members of the Steering Group are
reading the book "Raising the Roof" by Alice Mann. Members are finding it
helpful in understanding the complexity of congregational size theory and the dynamics of
size transition.
TASK TEAM REPORTING:
A. Existing Facilities. Craig Patstone
A standardized inventory form is being developed to be completed by all the churches to
provide information concerning memorials and other reusable resources. The historic rating
of each building will be completed in consultation with the Diocesan Historic Properties
Sub-committee. A parish contact will be sought for each church building to assist with
evaluation tasks.
B. Community Building. Jackie Lohnes
Over 200 people were in attendance at the Corn boil and approximately $400 will be
deposited in the PPM bank account. Interest has been expressed concerning the formation of
a combined Partnership choir which might meet for rehearsal on a more regular basis.
C. Financial Visioning. Andrew Logan / Keith Lane
Financial data continues to be gathered to keep the information current. The PPM bank
account has been opened and the $500.00 requested from each parish has been received.
Major fund-raising endeavors are being explored. Volunteers are needed to serve on the
Fund-raising Team.
D. Communication. Cindy Price
Planning has begun for the second edition of the PPM newsletter with a publication
deadline at the end of October.
E. Parish Vision. Debbie Black
The New Parish Vision Task Team met with Mr. William Gerhardt, a retired consultant. Mr
Gerhardt helped the Team develop a visioning process for proposal. Three steps including
the formation of a mission statement by the Steering Group; consultation with parishes /
congregations; and a final compiling of data, creation and sharing of a new vision. A
mission statement to outline the goals and vision of the new parish is the proposed first
step. By motion, the Steering Group members adopted the visioning process as the direction
they wished the New Parish Vision Task Team to proceed.
F. New Facilities. Gordon Brown / Wanda Porter
Dialogue with land owners is continuing and potential sites are being investigated. The
Steering Group expressed an urgency to the particular task of securing a future location
as a ministry center.
GOALS FOR NEXT MEETING
1. Perspective land sites will continue to be reviewed.
2. A sub group will be formed for Existing Facilities to gather the necessary historical
and inventory information.
3. Planning will continue for the 22 September 2002 joint parish service.
4. The Parish Visioning Team will work toward beginning the first step of the accepted
visioning process (mission statement) as outlined by the Team.
5. Information will be gathered and considered concerning possible major fund-raising
activities.
