Stage 4 NEWS  Issue 09

from the 15 October 2002 Steering Group Meeting

FOLLOW UP

1. Four parish service schedule review. Discussed as "Business" item.
2. Visioning plan. Considered under Report of New Vision Task Team.

TASK TEAM REPORTING

A. Existing Facilities. Craig Patstone
C. Patstone resigned from the PPM 4 Steering Group as a representative of the Parish of Westfield. On behalf of the meeting, Archdeacon Miller expressed regret at his decision and thanked him for his valuable work. D. Trivett has been asked to relay this information to the Parish of Westfield Vestry and request a replacement be made by the Parish.

B. Community Building. Jackie Lohnes
Planning will soon begin for the next four Parish combined service.

C. Financial Visioning. Andrew Logan / Keith Lane
A comprehensive proposed plan for fund-raising was presented and considered. A. Logan and K. Lane met with a representative from a local church where 1.5 million dollars has been raised for a new facility. They learned that pledging from parishioners produced the financial resources. Over 5 years, $500,000 could be raised by150 individuals pledging $12.82 per week. Financial data continues to be updated as month-end figures from the Parishes become available.

D. Communication. Cindy Price
The next newsletter will be printed and ready for distribution on 27 October. It was generally agreed that communication could be improved by a member of the Steering Group giving a short update or review of the Project on Sundays at announcement times.

E. Parish Vision. Debbie Black
A four-point plan was proposed as the next step in visioning. 1. To seek the help of a facilitator. 2. To hold 3 vision meetings at different locations in the Lower Saint John River Valley to present the Mission Statement and gather vision feedback and ideas. 3. Request for members of the Steering Group and New Parish Vision Task Team to attend these meetings. 4. To work closely with Communication and Community Building Task Teams in organizing the same. The plan was agreed upon and adopted by motion. The Steering Group will prepare for the visioning sessions on 29 October beginning at 6:00 p.m. with consultant Bill Gerhardt.

F. New Facilities. Gordon Brown / Wanda Porter
Communication with land owners in the area continues. The Task Group is seeking the best available land for the project and have been informally approached by a developer on one particular opportunity. By motion, the advertisement for land will be placed in the next two issues of both the River Valley News and the River Valley Viewer.

BUSINESS

1. Mission Statement. By motion, the Mission Statement as generated by the Steering Group on 25 September 2002 was accepted:

"To be a unified, faith-driven, growing Anglican Church proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ, serving the community in traditional and innovative Spirit-led ministries."

The Mission Statement will be presented formally to parishioners at the three meetings as proposed by the Parish Vision Task Team and data from parishioners for the eventual detailed Vision Statement collected.

2. Scheduled parish voting and other time line elements. A land proposal and a vision for a new parish is needed before there is another parish vote. The tentatively planned November 2002 vote (parish re-alignment) was seen as unrealistic with the reality of progress made. These items will need to be incorporated into a revised time line fitting with new realities and pacing of the overall Project goals.

3. Worship schedules. The scheduling of worship for November / December was discussed in the spirit of consultation, especially regarding the consolidation of scheduled services in September and October and the expressed desire of some to revert back to a service schedule incorporating additional services of Morning Prayer on Sundays. The decision regarding the schedule has been entrusted to those responsible for the scheduling - G. Hall for Grand Bay and Ketepec and D. Trivett in Westfield and Greenwich.

GOALS FOR NEXT MEETING
1. Set the dates for the 3 visioning meetings with the Parishes.
2. Have a formal proposal from the Developer expressing a land possibility as well as reports on other land negotiations and research.
3. Details for the combined Advent Service, 08 December 2002.
4. First draft of a letter to parishioners regarding fund-raising.
5. A replacement member from the Parish of Westfield for C. Patstone.
