| Stage 4 NEWS Issue 13 |
from the 11 March 2003 Steering
Group Meeting |
As this was the
last meeting for Keith Lane before his move to Ontario, on behalf of the Group, Archdeacon
Miller thanked him for serving on the PPM Stage Four Steering Group with all best wishes.
All task teams had been asked to meet to consider a short statement
summarizing the Visioning Meetings (24 November and 01 December 2002) from their
particular perspective and area of work.
TASK TEAM REPORTING
A. Existing Facilities. Jack Morris for Gerry Peer
Gerry Peer (currently on vacation) has provided a summary statement as requested. From the
Visioning Sessions it was learned that parishioners would like to have existing artefacts
and memorials utilized as much as possible in a new facility. Existing cemeteries will
need to be maintained. Concern has been raised about our existing structures needing
repairs.
B. Community Building. Marian Lucas Jeffries
The Community Building Task Team met to consider the requested summary statement for
visioning purposes. The Team is gathering information for an inventory of people currently
fulfilling roles and ministries in the existing parishes and proposed the possibility of a
more extensive gifts inventory all parishioners. Recommendations were presented concerning
combined worship on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
C. Financial Visioning. Andrew Logan / Keith Lane / Dick
Black
The Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper held at St. Anne's Church, Ketepec gave a profit of
$1482.47 for the PPM project. Planning is beginning for fund-raising and a more serious
look at stewardship education and approaches in the near future.
D. Communications. Cindy Price
The Communications Team met to consider a summary of the Visioning data. The statement
includes a proposed concept of our understanding the importance of communications and
community in terms of effective evangelism. The Team also sees the need to develop a
combined database of the membership to assist in future communication and ministry in the
new parish. The media has expressed interested in an update on the PPM Project.
E. Parish Vision. Debbie Black
New Parish Vision summary will be created for circulation before the 30 March decision as
background and information for the parish meeting voting.
F. New Facilities. Gordon Brown / Wanda Porter
Land is still being investigated. Planning is beginning as to what facility/facilities
will be used for worship space after the 30 March vote.
BUSINESS
1. Combined worship events. The combined four-parish Maundy Thursday worship will
be at St. John's Church, Grand Bay. Combined Good Friday worship will be at St.
Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, Westfield. Planning is beginning for these events. Open
offering received at the combined services will go to the PPM account, envelope offering
will be returned to the parishes.
2. Vision Summary. The summary from the Visioning Sessions will be circulated to
parishioners prior to the 30 March Parish Meetings. Along with the summary will be Canon XX (Amalgamation,
Division or Setting Off of Parishes).
3. Response to media. A press release will be drafted by Communications for
consideration at the next meeting for media use following 30 March.
The process of parish amalgamation was briefly reviewed and the
details of 30 March meetings discussed. Our Bishop has requested that parish corporations
petition for the beginning of the process of amalgamation (3 months by Canon XX). Parishioner
votes will be information only for the legal parish entity (Parish Corporation) to make a
decision regarding the petition to the Bishop. There was some discussion about the need
for appointment/election of scrutineers and the reasoning for using a ballot for
parishioner votes.
The next meeting of the Steering Group will address planning for
stewardship; more detailed planning for the interim period (April to June); and the issue
of structure and guidelines for the new parish corporation.
Next Meeting: Tuesday, 25 March 2003, 7:00 p.m. at the Westfield
Rectory.
