Stage 4 NEWS  Issue 16

from the 13 May 2003 Steering Group Meeting

FOLLOW UP

1. Interim Worship Facilities for Summer. Our Bishop has recommended that St. James', Westfield and St. John's, Grand Bay be used for worship during the summer months avoiding rental charges and scheduling conflicts. Combined Services beginning 22 June 2003 will be 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Holy Eucharist at St. James' (changing to St. John’s the latter part of July) and 11:15 a.m. St. Paul's, Oak Point.

2. Visit to St. George. Steering Group members toured St. Mark’s Church, St. George, observing the flexibility and adequacy of design. In informal conversation with their Rector and Warden’s, problems encountered were discussed. Much can be learned from that building committee as well as the one at St. Paul's, Rothesay.

3. Steering Group future / corporation motions. Vestries in the Parishes of Westfield, Grand Bay and Ketepec have passed the motion appointing members of the current Steering Group to work closely with the Bishop in giving direction on matters pertaining to the intended new parish and corporation.

4. Former Community Building Team wrap-up. The human resource inventory has been completed and will be helpful for worship scheduling, nominations, and the new corporation.

TASK TEAM REPORTING

Property and Facilities. Gordon Brown / Wanda Porter / Gerry Peer / Claude Miller

Land options continue to be explored as new pieces of land are suggested. There is concern for vacant buildings and the necessity of having buildings secured with windows boarded at the time of deconsecration.

Financial Visioning.
Stewardship.  Dick Black / Don Trivett
A team is being assembled to attend the Stewardship Conference 31 May 2003 at St. James' Broad Street. There will be an opportunity at that conference to plan how we might move forward with Stewardship in a new parish.

Financial Administration and Reporting.  Andrew Logan
For financial reasons there is a need for a new parish name. Offerings by EFT will be an option for parishioners continuing the programme in place in Grand Bay and Ketepec. An opinion will be sought from the Diocesan Chancellor concerning designated funds in parish investment accounts. It is expected our apportionment will be the 3 or 4 parish obligations added together with a new assessment for January 2004. On 08 July all assets and liabilities of the parishes involved will be assumed by the corporation of the new parish. There has been some consideration to financial management and member database computer software for use beginning in July.

Communications. Cindy Price
Work has begun to draft a family profile to be completed by members of the new parish. The next issue of the newsletter will be 31 May and will have a junior youth component.

Bishop's Advisory. Debbie Black/ Marion Lucas-Jeffries/ Geoffrey Hall
A Parish Profile for the new parish should be completed in the next 2 or 3 weeks. Staffing decisions both paid and volunteer need to be made. Decisions have to be made concerning corporation structure and securing of nominations for a new corporation.

BUSINESS

The following motions were carried unanimously.

1. Interim Bishop's Advisory on Appointments. The current Steering Group members minus the clergy members be the Interim Bishop's Advisory Committee on Appointments and that a meeting be scheduled with the Bishop, at his convenience, as early in June as possible.
