Visioning Consultations, 24 November / 01 December 2002 Raw Data Report
- lets get going
- transportation shouldn't be a problem; perhaps a van later
- the facility needs to be easily accessible
- staff should be given some thought
- encourage people to become part of automatic withdrawal (you know what money you have)
- sell buildings now so we don't have on-going expenses and we have more money now!
- we need the :new" church to bring the youth in
- maybe 2 services - one traditional one BAS youth choir hymn book easy to read
- need property - to vote on - for something tangible
- transportation is not a point we talked about but they felt was needed
- a new facility
- want it to look like a church
- debate about what a church should be like traditional or modern
-did not want to see any additions to the statement. It properly reflects what our mission
should be.
- God will guide us - to move forward- Down the road after the initial building is ready
we may be able to expand in ways we can't forsee at this time.
- We could be using a large building now to gather - not another church, but a
neutral' building such as this one.
- hold a meeting in each parish to see what each individual parish wants
- a facility that has room for meetings, Sunday School; also that will open up to large
areas, i.e. for a banquet (large) or small A convertible hall
- thought as to how to incorporate current parish treasures.
Everyone to work together
Meeting more frequently together
Include youth
Everyone assumes responsibility for the youth
Kids want to go, not to be dragged
Sporting / gymnasium Quality of facilities
Innovative enough to host contemporary community events i.e. Wesleyan Church
Get together more frequently as one - to tap into unity - Concern that 3 meetings have
secured the division more - need to have one large meeting
1. the building: simplicity, multiuse, flexible, good acoustics, expand music facilities
Organization- Youth programs - Youth music - more innovative alternate styles
Clergy - 1 Senior 1 Youth minister - Make use of church Army for some youth program -
Layreaders
Kitchen and Washrooms - user friendly - large
Must be adequate for dinners etc
Facility Visibility Important? - 1 - no 6 - yes Security could be an issue
How would serve such a large area
Church at further end of Greenwich Parish - good idea but will draw on resources
Transportation - van or church bus - seniors cannot drive long distances especially in
winter
Memorial and Artifacts to be included somehow?
Yes - very important
- Parish of Westfield and Welsford want a minister and youth leader and want to move now
- youth pastor now
- meet at Centrum or other facility temporarily (once a month) better for ministers
- name new parish
- get youth together
- Westfield School, Centrum
- temporary services at Westfield School more central and appeasable
- don't need church buildings anymore for short term use school etc. until facility can be
built (may be problem with elderly or others)
- get rid of old churches now
- dedicate rooms to name of old churches or areas
- percentage of joint collections to new church
- multipurpose room to be used by community
would still like pews and kneelers
- don't need everything new and shiny right away may need to use old pews etc.
- Architectural drawings / seniors - know several who don't come to church because don't
have wheel chair access
- Young - small gymnasium to draw young people in / basketball court / extracurricular
needs
- youth
- Tea fellowship - reading - Christian literature for children and adults - maybe book
lending library - Book Club
- church look like a church - steeple cross / pews / not just a community center with
chairs - "church that serves as a community place"
- faith director (minister)
- Mother's groups
- Nursery - really look at it - what it needs to look like, how will facilitate children's
spiritual growth
- we may need a church that can be "built on to"
- kitchen area - really nice - functional etc. (Dishwashers)
- ongoing information and consultation
- Fund raising plan that involves more than "pledges" from parishioners (Some
parishes have more time than $)
- Youth minister as well as regular minister
- Family friendly facilities
- programs to meet the spiritual (& other)needs of parishioners of all ages
- 5 yr plan that involves building seniors complex
- facilities for youth to get their physical / recreational needs met
- Food / shelter / clothing / literacy / -basic humanistic service needs
- I think this could work if we keep the Oak Point church open
- Even if there is no service, we should have a Sunday School every Sunday
- It should be one parish with 2 points with a service in both churches every Sunday
- I will go to the church and take my children no matter where the church is
- You have to look ahead not back
- There should be a bus transportation service
- We should be concentrating on the Holy Spirit not on buildings
- I'm glad the committees are looking at integrating the traditional artifacts
- Could we have a van for transportation BUS TRAVEL
- Hope the Steering committee is aware of the dynamics of a rural community ie. All the
closures the rural communities are living with plus the distances
- We must be fiscally responsible in the facility we build
- It was felt by one that the numbers in the combined parish would be realistically the
total current divided by 2
- We should have a dedicated youth ministry
- A combined new facility should have rec facilities for youth
- It is not realistic for one priest to look
- Regardless of the outcome it was stated by all we should care for each other
- In a large church there is a loss of an knowledge of all members (less caring, less
friendly)
Ideas to make the Mission Statement work
- Pick up service for church
- Graveyard Committee for each graveyard
- Expanded music ministry
- Memorials - how many can be moved. Stain glass windows very important. Concern for how
they would be incorporated
- Are all churches going to be sold or kept as historical buildings
- Cost of transportation - has that been figured into the cost All costs figured into new
facility
- Want church to stay where it is but know it won't happen
- Youth ministry with one of clergy to focus on that
- Scouts, quilting groups to use new facility
- Some people won't travel will switch to other churches in our community
- But some new people coming into communities and interested in where Anglican church is
moving
- We need a facility that will give our young people things to interest them such as youth
choir.
- Land location is a big factor in determining what can be done by people from long
distances away
- Proper care and use of physical history, ie fonts, artifacts, etc be properly
incorporated in new facility
- Keep traditional aspect foremost in architecture - church should look like a church
-New facility with possibilities of satellite churches
- place for the children
Programs - for children

- opportunities to serve, to meet needs of other people, organizations etc within the
community
- opportunities (invitations) to get people involved
- banquet rooms, kitchen facilities

- thought given for transportation for those who need it
- Bring community of Anglicans back to church - more social functions
- More community activities to get people meeting and knowing each other
- Keep Sunday School active. Continue with new Sunday School program
- Start "house groups" or "sharing groups" 4-6 people

- Remove St. James' and enlarge the cemetry
- necessary repairs on these 2 churches (NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE)
- Satellite church
- Don't need full time minister and rectory

- Give the new parish a name so that we can begin the unity now
- Church and senior complex attached

- All churches so, not just some
- Move into an interim building, service is the church, not just the physical building
- need more youth communities with the spirit-led content: Pioneers, "Word of
Life"
- 2 ministers - youth & Worship for adults
- If people could relax a bit on the concrete facts "how far do I have to
drive?" for example. This can't be answered right now - but the people who are
managing the process need to be trusted. Anxiety which may be causing people to doubt.

- New churches need to have a seniors complex attached to it
- Mid-week services during the summer
- Hearing system for seniors
- Church, not only a church but be a true community facility
- Other churches have our children for activities. We must provide youth groups that they
can get to easily. Serving the community is important.
- We want to expand and can only do that as one unified church, Recruit, recall and
retain.
- Should go after those who have left with positive ideas - reach out
